Mamie McCrary

Mamie Caroline (Stanford) McCrary, born November 22, 1937 in Selma, AL, died on April 8, 2018 in her adopted hometown of Fairhope, Alabama. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert D. McCrary of Fairhope; two sons, Robert D. McCrary, Jr., of Clemson, SC, and Michael D. McCrary of Vestavia Hills, AL; and two siblings, Shaffeur C. (“Buddy”) Stanford Jr., and Richard L. H. Stanford, both of Birmingham, AL. Mamie was a graduate of Ramsay High School, a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, and a former resident of the Forestdale area. Mamie loved sports, reading, music, the beach, and long drives. She was a creature of habit, and she delighted in the good natured humor that this sometimes generated. She adored her family – particularly her children and grandchildren. She was very expressive and passionate, and her smile would light up a room. All who know her, will miss her greatly. Visitation will be held at Fairhope United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 1-2 pm.
