Madge Evans Bray

d. June 29, 2020

Madge Evans Bray Our Mother went to meet Jesus on June 29, 2020. A resident of Fairhope, she was 91 years old. Born in the Mississippi Delta, she met the man of her dreams on a bus coming home from the beach. Sunburned, blistered and 95lbs, she was the prettiest girl Vercial R. Bray had ever seen. They married on November 10, 1948, while Dad was home from the service in the U.S. Navy. After the birth of their first son, he returned to his duty station in San Diego while Madge kept house for 3 ½ years; at that point Dad came home for good. Once home, they added two more children to their family. Together, they were God fearing, solid, honest, hard-working people, part of the greatest generation. She loved family gatherings where she was queen of the kitchen. Her baking skill was hard to beat. Through the years, she enjoyed fun times in the Order of Athena, traveling with family and friends and served in the Auxiliary at Thomas Hospital for over 15 years. She also enjoyed her church family at Daphne United Methodist Church. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer. Anyone who knew Madge understood her biggest love outside her family: Auburn football. Watching a game with Madge was an experience that one would not forget. She loved watching her grandchildren grow into wonderful young adults. Over the past 3 ½ years, she was blessed to have a wonderful caregiver, Sandy Ash. We could not have asked or hoped for a more compassionate woman to take care of Mom as her health declined. We are incredibly grateful. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vercial R. Bray. Madge is survived by her three children, Bennie M. (Stephanie) Bray of Dallas, TX, Alan M. (Stacey) Bray of Mobile, AL and Cheryl Bray of Daphne, AL; four grandchildren, Chad, Alexis, Taylor and Chandler; many other relatives and friends. A private, graveside service will take place at Jubilee Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Auxiliary at Thomas Hospital or a charity of your choice.
