Loraine Marie Sanzotera, a resident of Lillian, Alabama, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023. Loraine grew up in southern California’s Mojave Desert. At 15, she married Teddy Sanzotera and embarked on a 22-year adventure living on military bases around the world. Loraine developed a lifelong passion for travel. She was a loving mother, world-class grandmother, and a wonderful friend. As the oldest daughter in a family of seven children, Loraine began a life of serving others at an early age. After moving to Lillian, she volunteered as a Laubach tutor and judged the Lillian Christmas parade for several years. Loraine was active in the local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter for many years and served in her church (Elsanor Community Church) helping wherever needed. She opened her home for cookouts, loving to hear children laughing & splashing in the pool, and during hurricanes, for those needing shelter. She never met a stranger and always made room for one more at the table. Everyone celebrating the holidays in her home was considered family. She will forever be remembered as the Queen of Yahtzee. Loraine is survived by her daughter, Angela Sanzotera (Jody Stough), her grandson, James Tidmore, two siblings, George Byl and Carolyn Holt, her sister-in-law, Cecelia Zeiher (Scott) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Sanzotera, her parents, Fred and Juanita Byl, and siblings Donald King, John Byl, Steve Byl, and Fredricka Lapham. Graveside services will be at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 am. Please gather at 10:30 am in the parking lot of Olive Baptist Church, Warrington Campus, 103 West Winthrop Ave, Pensacola, FL to follow to Pensacola Naval Air Station. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the DAV (or similar veterans’ charity) or the Lillian Volunteer Fire Department in her memory.
