Lloyd Lamar Turner, 74, of Fairhope, AL, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence McCue Turner and Hermione Brown Conner Turner, and his uncle Lloyd Jackson “Shebo” Conner. Born April 11, 1946, in Mobile, Alabama, Lloyd was the youngest of three sons to “Tiny” and “Jean.” He graduated from McGill-Toolen High School in 1964 and continued his education at Auburn University, with a Bachelor’s of Accountancy in 1968. After he and Beth married in 1968, he began serving in the United States Air Force, which took them to California and Guam. After service, he returned to his hometown and began his career at Waterman Steamship in downtown Mobile. He continued his career at Gulf Coast Therapy before retiring from the Baldwin County Highway Department. Lloyd’s family and hobbies were his greatest joy. Throughout the years he dabbled in photography, biking, bird watching, sailing Mobile Bay and boating on Fish River. He and Beth enjoyed biking together across Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia on the Rails to Trails. He was a staunch lover of westerns particularly those including John Wayne. He was a devout fan of the Auburn Tigers. He enjoyed traveling across the southeast, with the Great Smoky Mountains as a favorite and frequently visited destination beginning in the 1970’s with family and friends alike. For two decades, visiting Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens with Beth and granddaughter Liz was a holiday tradition not to be missed. With his son-in-law Storm by his side, Lloyd’s endless list of handyman projects were undertaken with overthink. On Sundays he was his daughter Lisa’s driver to obscure locations in Baldwin County to support her love of nature photography. Lloyd was a steadfast and loyal friend, uncle, son, brother, grandfather, father and husband. Lloyd is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Elizabeth Turner (neé Teate); daughter Lisa (Storm) Floyd of Fairhope, AL; granddaughter Elizabeth Floyd of Fairhope, AL; brothers Laurence (Carolyn) Turner of Columbus, OH, and Leonard (Pamela) Turner of Fairhope, AL; brothers-in-law Joseph (Sondra) Teate of Fairhope, AL and Henry (Mary) Teate of Gulf Shores, AL; nephews Lee (Katie) Turner of Fairhope, AL and Joe Teate of Alpharetta, GA; nieces Laurie (Gordon) Strayhorn of Brevard NC, Lucia (Jason) Cox of Drexel Hill, PA, Leslie Turner of Bath, Somerset, UK, Rebecca Taylor of Cleveland, OH, and Karen (Jason) Bailey of Montevallo, AL; and many other cherished relatives and friends.
