Linda (Pam) Susan Bonner-Smith was born on January 11, 1955, in Monticello, NewYork. A long-time resident of New Rochelle, New York, she peacefully transitioned at her home in Mount Vernon, New York on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Linda attended Monticello High School and graduated from SUNY Binghamton with a bachelor’s degree in political science. After graduation, she began a distinguished career of 27 years in the Direct Marketing and Quality Assurance departments at New York Telephone Company (which later became Verizon) in White Plains, New York before her retirement.
Our beloved Linda was a Black history and humanities enthusiast, civil rights advocate, and movie aficionado as well as a patron of the visual arts, concerts, and music festivals. Linda was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals, especially. Sunday dinner, for family and friends. She was an avid collector of unique, Lladró figurines that represented her culture. Linda’s hobbies and talents included calligraphy writing alongside committing countless hours producing arts and crafts. Her specialties were holiday wreaths and hand painted, African American themed, Christmas ornaments using her dining room table as office, studio, assembly line, and shipping department. Those who knew her understood her enjoyment of “retail therapy” as there was not a sale that she could not find! However, her greatest reverence was simply spending time with family, friends, and loved ones. Linda leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 39 years, JeRome Smith; sons Zachary Smith of Bronx, New York, Daren Smith (and partner, Dr. Melissa Torres, DNP) of Shark River Hills, New Jersey, Cortney Smith (and wife, Michelle Smith) of North Brunswick, New Jersey; daughter, Dr. Tyler Smith-Howells, MD (and husband, James Howells) of Lenexa, Kansas; sister Melinda Bonner of Mount Vernon, New York; grandchildren Connor and Grace Smith of Hazlet, New Jersey; and a host of family, chosen family, and friends. Linda was pre-deceased by her parents, Clyde and Polly Bonner of Fairhope, Alabama.
