Leslie Skinner

d. September 30, 2023

Les "Boogie" Skinner, a particularly outgoing and funny man, who loved the state of Texas and Longhorn football, passed away on September 30, 2023 at age 78. He was a resident of Daphne, AL and Santa Rosa Beach, FL. Boogie was born in Canton, TX and grew up in Greenville, TX. In 1964, Boogie took a semester off from college to earn tuition money and promptly received a draft notice to serve to in the United States Army. Boogie was shipped off to Viet Nam in 1966, a country he loved except for being shot at. Armed with an honorable discharge in 1967, Boogie returned to school in Commerce, Tx and later moved to Dallas and met Pamela Bixler, who went onto be his wife of 54 years. After getting married in 1969, he worked at Dun and Bradstreet but eventually settled into a career in the pulp and paper industry in sales and process engineering. When not on Inside Texas discussing Longhorn sports and recruiting, Boogie loved to play harmonica in blues bands. Playing live music in front of a crowd was his jam. He became an incredible cook, and his culinary skills were off the chain good. If he had any regret, it was moving to Ruston, LA and not moving to Austin, TX. Boogie was preceded in death by his parents Herbert L. (Herb) Skinner and Nita Beth Skinner. He is survived by Pamela Skinner: children Joel B Skinner and Amanda K. Skinner: grandchildren Georgia E. Skinner and Barrett C. Skinner, Austin W. Jones and Cade Jones and great granddaughter Scarlett Jones: and also, countless friends who truly adored him. He walked in faith, and many were touched by his guidance and care. The family would like to extend gratitude to the medical professionals who worked with him in his battle with cancer.
