Leroy Weeks

Leroy Sylvester Weeks, age 89, a resident of Magnolia Springs, Alabama, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023.

Leroy was born on April 23, 1934, in Magnolia Springs, the first of Robert and Adeline Weeks’ eight children. After leaving school, he worked on the family farm, served in the United States Army, and worked as an engineer on tugboats and commercial ships operating out of Mobile Bay. In 1965, He was hired by A. W. Williams Farms in west Mobile County and managed the 1,200-acre farm with its large herd of Black Angus cattle for over twenty years, winning several awards for his soil conservation efforts. 

Leroy married Roberta LaCoste and together they raised her two children from a previous marriage. Leroy and Roberta were able to return home to live in Magnolia Springs, where they enjoyed the fishing, shrimping, and gardening they both loved. Leroy put his legendary handyman skills and green thumb to good use while working for Hughes Aircraft and the Town of Magnolia Springs. He and Roberta were active parishioners at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Magnolia Springs.

Leroy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Roberta LaCoste Weeks, his parents, Robert E. Weeks, Jr., and Adeline Lipscomb Weeks, and his brothers, Vernon, Melvin, and Everette Weeks. 

He is survived by his stepchildren, Malani LaCoste and Gordon Sparks, and their families, his brothers, Eugene Weeks and Sheldon Weeks, his sisters, Willene Weeks and Janice Fiala, his nieces and nephews, his cousin and close friend, Merlyn Lipscomb, and many other loving relatives and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Magnolia Springs, Alabama, preceded by a recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow immediately after at the church cemetery.
