Larry Torbert

Larry Kenneth Torbert, age 72, a resident of Fairhope, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Larry was born in Mobile, AL on October 27, 1945 to Homer Morrison Torbert and Sammie Florentine Junkin Torbert and grew up in Theodore, AL.  He was a member of Theodore First Baptist for 38 years.  In 1988 he and his wife moved to Fairhope where he has been a faithful member of Fairhope First Baptist Church since 1994. Larry was drafted in 1965, joined the Air Force, and served his country in Vietnam as a Munitions Specialist and Staff Sargent.  For many years he owned Omni Maritime, Inc. and worked as a Vessel Agent representing vessel owners around the world.  A car enthusiast, he purchased his beloved red Plymouth Prowler in 1999, sporting the much seen “WELBLSD” tag acknowledging a full and happy life that was indeed filled with many, many blessings.  His greatest accomplishment was his total involvement in the lives of his 3 children and grandson.  He was active and present in the things important to them, be it T-ball, ballet, piano recitals, soccer, cheerleading, or other school or church events.  He was and is truly their hero.  As a husband, he was equally involved – sharing in everything his wife did and endearing himself to her employers and colleagues all through their marriage of 31 years. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Carnley Torbert; son, Samuel Jason Torbert of Gulf Shores; daughters, Jordan Torbert Correia (Alex) of Windsor, CT and Jane Wilson Torbert of Cologne, Germany ; grandson, Andras Torbert and his mother, Andrea Torbert of Gulf Shores; sister, Sandra Burkett of Waynesville, NC; brothers, William Torbert (Susie) of Lilburn, GA and Randy Torbert (Kathy) of Theodore, AL; nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many, many friends. The family will receive friends at 10:00am on December 19, 2017, First Baptist Church, 300 South Section St, Fairhope, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00am.
