Larry Edwin Kuhn

Larry Edwin Kuhn, 80, of Effingham, IL passed away Monday, June 13th at his home in Fairhope, AL. He was born in Centralia, IL, July 31, 1941, the son of George E. Kuhn and Clara E. Finley Kuhn. He married Lynn Kay Landreth on April 12, 1985, in Murray, KY. Larry graduated from Centralia High School and Kaskaskia College, and he completed many short courses in Oil and Gas Geology from the University of Illinois and other colleges. He served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and Illinois National Guard during his 6-year enlistment from September 1963 to September 1969. Larry was employed as an Engineering Technician at Illinois Department of Transportation in Effingham, IL from 1965 to 1977. He was self-employed with the Shell Oil Service Stations from 1977 to 1984 and Eagle Energy Inc from 1984 to 1996 which drilled and produced Oil Wells in Cumberland and Shelby Counties, Il. He was also employed by Effingham Truck Plaza as station manager from 1986 to 1991 and Keller Oil Co from 1992 to 1998 in sales and management. He owned and operated with his wife, L. Kuhn Oil from 1996 to 2018, which drilled and produced oil in Clinton, Effingham, Marion and Shelby Counties in Illinois. He was active in Oil and Gas Geology in the Illinois and Kentucky areas, tennis programs, and The Salvation Army. He was a member of Churches in Centralia and Effingham and a member of the American Legion of Illinois. Larry is survived by his wife and best friend, Lynn; son, Kenneth E. (wife Sandy) Kuhn of Effingham, IL; daughter, Kara J. (husband Jeff) McAndrew of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Shannon (husband Chad) Mayfield of Pell City, AL; son, Scott Verdeyen of Altamont, IL; sister, Linda L. Kuhn and brother, Monty R. Kuhn, both of Centralia, IL; brother, Randy D. Kuhn of Fremont, MI; mother-in-law, Lois E. Landreth of Effingham, IL; 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bobby E. Landreth. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
