Lanell Hopper Stallings April 30, 1954 – June 16, 2017 Lanell Hopper Stallings, 63, of Fairhope, Alabama passed away at Mobile Infirmary on Friday, June 16, 2017. Reared in Lauderdale County Mississippi, Lanell attended West Lauderdale High School and Meridian Community College where she received an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. She continued her education at the University of Alabama Birmingham receiving certification as an RNFA, Registered Nurse First Assist. This allowed her to do what she loved as a nurse, serving as a nurse manager and working in Open Heart Surgery. Lanell used her certification as an RNFA in hospitals in Knoxville, Tennessee; Denver, Colorado; Charleston, West Virginia; Vero Beach, Florida; Meridian, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama. Lanell retired from nursing in 2014 and moved to Fairhope, Alabama in October of 2015. She loved living on the Eastern Shore of Alabama where she spent time making new friends, attending the Art Walks, and visiting with family. An avid Alabama football fan, Lanell loved watching and attending games. She leaves behind wonderful memories that all who knew her will treasure forever. Lanell was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama. Ms. Stallings is survived by three children, Michelle Neal, Jasper Alabama; Derrick Stallings, Birmingham, Alabama; and Shawn Stallings, Birmingham, Alabama. She has three grandchildren; Caitlyn Danielle White of Knoxville, Tennessee, Chloe Grace Martin, Jasper Alabama and Joseph Nelson Martin, Jasper Alabama. She has two surviving sisters; Carol Garrard (Edward) Fairhope, Alabama and Rebecca Parker (James) Meridian, Mississippi. Nieces and nephews are Tamara Cosgrove (Jason) Fairhope, Alabama, Barry Westbrook (Danielle), Fairhope, Alabama and Shane Parker (Rebekah) Meridian, Mississippi. Special to her heart were her great nieces and nephews Jackson and Brooklyn Westbrook, Logan and Addison Cosgrove, Kinleigh and Carson Parker. She is also survived by an aunt, Maude Elizabeth Grant and two uncles George Hopper (Joann) Houston, Texas and William Dewayne Powell, Meridian, Mississippi. In addition, Lanell leaves her very special friend and fiancée, Larry Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert Nelson Hopper and Doris Jean Powell Hopper, paternal grandparents Albert Anderson Hopper and Rosa Mosley Hopper, maternal grandparents William Ransom Powell and Betty Jane Fulton Powell. Services will be held from the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, on Saturday June 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Jimmy Garrard and the Reverend John Saxon officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Jim Bodman, Jason Cosgrove, David Harris, Ronnie Nelson, Shane Parker, King Palmer, Michael Powell, William Powell, and Barry Westbrook.
