Judy Elizabeth Simmons

Judy Elizabeth Pinson Simmons, 78, a resident of the Bromley Community in Baldwin County Alabama, passed away at her home Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

She was born July 2, 1945 in Greenwood, SC, grew up in the small community of Coronaca where the family home was located and attended high school in Ninety-Six, South Carolina.  After graduating from High School, Judy attended Winthrop College where she received her bachelors degree in elementary education and began her teaching career in South Carolina in 1968.  After moving to Alabama in 1972 she later received her masters of elementary education from the University of South Alabama.  She continued teaching in elementary schools in Mobile and Baldwin counties until her retirement in 2007 and touched the lives of countless children.   Her love of teaching young children also extended to teaching Sunday School for over 20 years.  Her students will remember her for her gentle spirit, patience and genuine love for them.

Judy was a true example of living life guided by God’s Word.  She was a good and faithful servant of the Lord and a lady of strong Christian faith and values instilled in her by her grandmother who lived in the family home.   “Mama” was Judy’s roommate, best friend and confidant during her formulative years.  Judy’s compassion for those less fortunate, especially children, impacted many people throughout her life.   She was humble, thrifty, modest, and loving to all who knew her.  Her influence on those who have known her will continue for years to come.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents Walter Pierce Pinson and Lillian Milligan Pinson and her brother John Drayton Pinson.

Judy is survived by her husband, Roger, her brother Dr. Walter Pinson, daughters Chandra Simmons and Lisa Jones (Matthew) and her son John Simmons (Christy), grandchildren Cayla Allen, Dalton Simmons, Meredith Ryan, Anna Ryan, Marie Jones, Pierce Jones and many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service and fellowship will be held at Durant Chapel Baptist Church, Crossroads Alabama, Sunday May 19, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00.  A private family Interment service will be held at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute.
