Joseph Morriss Lovelady passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, from complications from Covid. He was 72 years old.
Joe was born in Birmingham Alabama to Don and Augusta Lovelady and spent his youth in Montevallo, Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University where he met his soul mate, Susan, to whom he was married for 47 years.
Moving to Daphne in 1977, Joe Lovelady was the "L" of NFL lumber and building supply company and presently was the owner of Daphne Rental Center. An energetic and good businessman, the Grand Opening of his newest endeavor, Benjamin Moore Paints, took place while he was in the hospital. He was intelligent, humble, and loved by his friends and business associates from all walks of life. " Who doesn't love Joe?" are words spoken by many. A keen listener, he rarely steered the conversation to be about himself and never spoke harshly about anyone. With his signature positive attitude, he deeply and unconditionally loved his family and friends, and with quiet generosity, supported countless charitable organizations, always giving back to his community. The world has lost an earthly angel.
Joe's happy place was his home on Lake Martin, where skiing, boating, and 'noodling' satisfied his need to be near water. He was an accomplished cook, and a music aficionado, regularly attending music festivals and concerts, especially the 30A Songwriters Festival. A big fan of Miles Davis, his musical tastes were varied as The Tedeschi Trucks Band was his other favorite.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, son, Clay (Anita) daughter, Leigh, and grandchildren, Joseph, Benjamin, and Sarah Lovelady.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17th, at 6pm at the Church of the Apostles in Fairhope. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18th, at 11am at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope. Because Joe's generosity was widespread, the family asks instead of flowers, for donations to be made in Joe's memory to the charity of your choice.
