It is with deep sorrow that the family of Joseph A. Ferlisi, MD announce his peaceful passing on February 9, 2025, at the age of 91.

Joseph was born in Buffalo, New York on April 13, 1933. He is predeceased by his mother and father Mark and Pauline (Montalto) Ferlisi, his sister Lucy Ayers and his devoted cousin Salvatore Mancuso. He is survived by Kathryn (Shubert) Ferlisi, his loving wife of 44 years, his children Cynthia (James) Fitzgerald, Mark (Wendy) Ferlisi, David (Jean) Ferlisi and Peter (Lynne) Ferlisi, his sister Mary (Ferlisi) Dilion, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, many nieces and nephews, his dear, dear friends and his treasured pets.

Dr. Ferlisi was a retired obstetrician/gynecologist and a veteran of the U.S. Army. After graduating from the University of Buffalo 1955 and the University of Buffalo School of Medicine 1959 he completed his residency in surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1964 at the Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo NY. Joseph served as a Major in the United States Army Medical Core in Vietnam from 1967-1969.

Dr. Ferlisi practiced in Buffalo, NY and Enterprise and Montgomery, AL. He had an unfaltering commitment to his patients, delivering more than 10,000 babies and performing countless surgeries throughout his 54-year career. 

Dr. Ferlisi was deeply dedicated to providing care to the underserved and felt privileged to be on staff at the Autauga County Obstetric Clinic in Prattville, AL and the Lister Hill Healthcare Center in Montgomery, Al. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL. 

Dr. Ferlisi was adored by his family, friends, staff, colleagues and patients. “Papa Joe” will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, exceptional culinary and woodworking skills, his love of the Buffalo Bills and Alabama football, and his cigars.

Joseph’s life will be celebrated during a private gathering.
