JOHN DAME STURDIVANT
9/1/1946 – 4/11/2025
John Dame Sturdivant, AKA Guppy, a native of Mobile, AL and a resident of Daphne, AL for over 40 years, passed away April 11, 2025, at the age of 78 peacefully at home.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert Burkett Sturdivant, Sr., mother, Dorine Dame Sturdivant, brother, Robert Burkett Sturdivant, Jr. (Merry, also deceased) and dear uncle, John David (JD) Dame.
He is survived by his wife, Candice Rumpanos, sons, Charles Geoffrey Edward (Tiffany Trione), Paul Nicholas, granddaughter, Scarlett Judith Lee Sturdivant, sisters, D’Lo Trejo (Angel) and Deena Dorine McMullen (David, deceased), nephew, Ed Sturdivant (Dee Ann), Niece, Vivian Leigh Kapito (Bruce), cousins, Jeanie Dame Winebarger (Don, deceased), Alene Dame Whitesides (Tom) and John Lynn Sturdivant (Kay), and others.
John graduated from Murphy High School in 1964 where he was a member of Phi Sigma Chi Fraternity and played football until sidelined with a knee injury. John graduated from the University of South Alabama with a B. A. in Mathematics in 1971. While at USA he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity (Beta Mu Chapter) and later an active member of the Alumni Associations of USA and Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
John was an avid supporter of USA Jags athletics. He enjoyed time spent on the bay at Fort Morgan, AL and was active in the Fort Morgan Civic Association. John was a motorcycle enthusiast, participating in many Angel Rides over the years. He read extensively, mainly of historical and political interests.
He was a member of the Knights of Ecor Rouge in Fairhope, AL for many years. And a founding member of the Loyal Order of Fire Truck in Daphne, AL.
John was a devoted and supportive husband, and father, active in the kids academic and sports activities.
He was employed as Comptroller with Ward International Trucks at time of his retirement in 2010.
His loss will be felt by all who were fortunate to know him.
A Celebration of His Life will be held on April 23, 2025, 3 – 5 PM at Buster’s/Manci’s Antique Restaurant, Main Street, Daphne, AL.
A private family service will be held at The Shrine of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Daphne, AL, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, John would wish donations be made to The Shrine of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Daphne, AL. 36526.
