We mourn the passing of John Louis Magnon and celebrate his heavenly reunification with his wife of 69 years, Lois Willem Magnon. John, a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Fairhope, AL, was born on August 25, 1929. He passed into the hands of God and the arms of his beloved wife, surrounded by family and friends, on July 31, 2018. John retired from the IBM Corporation at Boca Raton, FL as a Senior Engineer Manager. He was an avid aviation enthusiast and FAA Certificated Commercial Pilot with an Instrument Instructor rating. Flying instruction served as his second career until the age of 75. He was a charter member of the Pompano Senior Squadron Flying Club, and a member in the Florida Aero Club, Silver Wings Fraternity, Ancient Airmen of South Alabama, The 8th Air Force Historical Society, and the Ancient & Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen. John was also active in the boating fraternity, a past member the New Orleans Power Squadron, and upon his passing a member of the Perdido Bay Power Squadron. He was a 50+ year member of America’s Boating Club, the United States Power Squadron. John served in the U S Navy during WW II and was an active supporter of the Armed Services and their youth organizations – ROTC, Sea Cadets. He was a member of The American Legion, The Trinidad Veterans Reunion Group, and The Mariner/Marlin Association. John was a former chapter president & life member of the Navy League of the United States, as well as a life member of the Association of Naval Aviation. He was a member of the Mobile Council, NLUS, Honorary member of Boca-Delray Council, NLUS, and a charter member of McCampbell's Aces Squadron of ANA. As a member of the Civil Air Patrol Cadets during WW II, he shared in the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to the CAP for service to the country, receiving a replica of said Congressional Gold Medal. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Magnon; his sister, Helen Cuevas; his son Craig Louis Magnon; and his life partner, Lois Willem Magnon. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Magnon Spulecki, son-in-law Alfred Spulecki, and numerous godchildren, nieces and nephews – descendants of the Magnon & Willem families. A memorial service will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church in Daphne, AL on Friday August 3, 2018. Viewing will be at 11:00 AM and mass at 12:00 Noon. Friends and family are invited to celebrate John's life. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope, AL. Following the interment, family and guests are invited to a reception back at Christ The King Catholic Church.
