John was born in Elizabeth, NJ August 2, 1938. He joined the US Army after graduating from Grover Cleveland High School and attending Fairleigh Dickenson University. While serving in the US Army, he played a key role in setting up the Alaskan frontier’s communications and telephone systems. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, John worked with Western Electric as a technician for several years and then as a sales engineer and proprietor of the JM Gammer Company in Georgia, representing multiple electronics manufacturing principal businesses for the remainder of his career. His dedication and focus on his career were also reflected in his commitment to his family, friends, and tennis buddies. John attended St. Lawrence Parish in Fairhope, AL where he served as an usher. He also dedicated a portion of his time to Thomas Hospital as a volunteer as well as his time and skills to the less fortunate through Habitat for Humanity. In the past several years, he thoroughly enjoyed the “coffee talk” he shared with his friends in the coffee room at the Fairhope Wellness Center near Thomas Hospital. Among many other tributes, he will be remembered for his humor (a bit salty at times) and his love and support of family. John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, his son, John Scott (wife Kelly and their two sons, John Emory and Benjamin), his daughter, Christine (her daughter Casey Whitmer), his sister, Arline Pressl, his niece, Joanne Garde, and two nephews, Walter Garde and Steven Pressl.
