Joan Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Scruggs
Our Mom, Joan Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Scruggs of Mobile, AL received the fulfilled promise of our Lord on the morning of February 3rd, 2025. She entered the gates of heaven, made whole and made new, leaving this earthly world behind. She was surrounded by family and friends in the days leading up to the morning of her passing.
Beth was born on June 14, 1957, in Mobile, AL to Joan and Bill Scruggs. She was the older sister of Paul Scruggs. She was a graduate of Davidson High School in Mobile. She went on to attend William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS to complete an undergraduate degree. She completed her master’s at Samford University in Birmingham, AL and finished her Juris Doctorate in Montgomery, AL at Jones Law School. She held many different roles over the years for a career, always desiring to learn something new and to provide for the family that she loved.
Beth had a passion for many things in her life, but none more than the three children that she raised, Duncan, Bannister, and Collins. They were her absolute pride and joy. She worked diligently to instill in them mercy, grace, courage, and love. She dreamed big for her children, always pushing them to more, and longing for them to forge their own path. She loved them each in a way that allowed them to become who they were created to be.
She loved Jesus and tried to live her life in a way that was glorifying to Him. You could see this reflected in a myriad of ways. Beth was known to those that she encountered as a welcoming spirit, a fun presence, and a refreshing spunk. She was a woman who always thought of others, giving generously of her time and talents. Beth was keen in her awareness of those around her, often giving of herself, even at her own peril. She was not a woman to go down without a fight, especially when it came to protecting those that she cared most deeply about. She was always happiest when she could find a body of water, a sunset, a song, and share it all with friends and family.
Beth is rejoicing in Heaven with those that went before her, her parents, Joan and Bill Scruggs. She is survived by her three children, Duncan (Anna), Bannister (Victoria) and Collins. She was beloved as ‘Sassy’ by her three grandchildren, Maggie James, Cate, and Annie. Beth left this world knowing that she was loved deeply and cared for by her significant other, Dave Thompson. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Scruggs (Nancy) and her niece Kathryn (Chris) and nephew William (Sarah).
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1st, at Sunset Pointe in Fairhope, Alabama at 1:00 in the afternoon.
To say that she will be missed simply does not explain the void she left behind. We now rejoice that her suffering has ended, and we have an angel watching over us as we step through the days ahead. We love you, Mom and are forever grateful that we get to call you, ours.
