Janet Lynn Dixon August 13, 1953 - November 6, 2021 Janet Lynn Dixon went home to her Creator and Savior late in the evening of November 6, 2021. Her family was blessed to be able to shower her with love during her last week and final moments on earth. A beloved wife and mother of three, “Look for ways to be Jesus to people” was the phrase she instilled in her children and a motto she lived by throughout her life. She is survived by Gregg, her husband of 44 years, their children Luke (Caryn) Dixon, Nashville, Tennessee, Daniel (Patricia) Dixon, Denver, Colorado, and Elizabeth Dixon, Oxford, Mississippi, as well as granddaughters Hayley Dixon and Hannah Dixon. The third child of Jack and Ruthie Meyer, Jan was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 13, 1953. She enjoyed playing the piano as a child, oboe in the high school band, and being a disc jockey at the local radio station during summers home from college. Jan completed her Communications degree from University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana. She also attended paralegal school in Pennsylvania. Matched by a friend, she met Gregg who was working on his doctorate in Agronomy also at U of I, often helping him late into the night with his agricultural research. They married within nine months of meeting. They have been residents of Illinois, Texas, and then Alabama since 1992. Jan was a professional volunteer. When her children were in school, she always signed up to help with field trips or as a room mom. Whether it was making sure her kids were at band practice, soccer practice, or whatever hobby they pursued, Jan was there to support her three kids. She was an encouraging word to her children in the morning and a welcoming smile when they came home from school. She and Gregg spent almost 10 years as dedicated band parents going to every game and competition. Jan actively volunteered at the Prodisee Pantry every Tuesday as long as her health allowed. Gregg and Jan partnered to do Meals on Wheels where they handed out not only meals, but encouraging Bible verses, lollipops, and roses from their home garden. Always looking for a challenge, Jan loved to work on puzzles whether it was a jigsaw puzzle or a crossword puzzle. Family gatherings often included working on her jigsaw puzzles late into the night. Jan enjoyed celebrating the seasons and holidays. Her home was always decorated for the occasion and she loved inviting people over. Whether for an Auburn football game or a holiday celebration, she loved opening her home to friends and family. She also cherished spending time with her grandchildren and sending and receiving letters from them. Jan had a heart for service to God and it was evidenced by her loving devotion as a helpmate to her husband, as a mother and grandmother, and as a member of 3Circle Church. Active in Women’s ministries, she was a small group leader in various Bible studies including those at the Home of Grace for women. She was most happy when she was giving of herself to serve others. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3Circle Church (10274 State Hwy 104, Fairhope, AL 36532) on Saturday November 20th. Visitation will be at 10 am and the celebration service will be at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Ecumenical Ministries, Inc. of Baldwin County (www.baldwinemi.org/donate), Prodisee Pantry (www.prodiseepantry.org/donate) or the Hope Center at 3Circle Church (check payable to Hope Center mailed to Hope Center, 10274-A State Hwy 104, Fairhope, AL 36532).
