He was born on October 31, 1950, in Fairfield, Alabama, Buddy was a man whose loving nature and friendly demeanor touched the lives of all who knew him.
Buddy was preceaded by his beloved wife, Dara Richards, his parents, James V. and Anna Richards, and leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. His memory will be cherished by his devoted daughter, Brandi Hartfield (John), his adoring grandchildren, Trent Fields fiance’ Maggie and Bryleigh Fields, his sisters, Faye True (Bob) and Nancy Hutcheson, and his brother, Fred Richards (Leslie). Buddy also held a special place in the heart of his niece, Lesley White, and the numerous other nieces and nephews who will miss his presence dearly.

His commitment to justice and public safety earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he so diligently served. Buddy's interests were as vast as the ocean he loved to explore. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in deep-sea fishing, hunting, and scuba diving. His passion for the natural world was equally matched by his green thumb, as he could often be found tending to his garden, cultivating both plants and friendships with equal care.
Those who knew Buddy would describe him as the epitome of a loving, handy, and friendly individual seeing as he never met a stranger. His ability to fix anything, his readiness to lend a helping hand, and his unwavering support for his loved ones were hallmarks of his character. Buddy's laughter and stories were the glue that bonded many gatherings, and his absence will be felt deeply by all.
