James Randall “Randy” Murchison, 75, a native of Elmore County, AL and a resident of Fairhope, AL passed away on October 12, 2020. Randy was a 1962 graduate of Wetumpka High School and a 1967 graduate of Auburn University. Upon graduation from Auburn Randy embarked upon a 36-year career with Georgia Power Company that would take him to several cities throughout the state with his longest tenure being 21 years in Rome where he raised his three sons. During his time in Rome, Randy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served faithfully. He served the community as president of the Rome Jaycees, the Rome Lion’s Club, and the East Rome High School PTA. He was also a graduate of Leadership Rome. Randy could often be seen and heard actively supporting his sons in their academic and athletic endeavors. Randy was a staunch supporter of Auburn University. He served as president of the Northwest Georgia Auburn Club in Rome, and he was an original founder of the West Central Georgia Auburn Club in Carrollton, GA. He was very passionate about Auburn football and spent dozens of Saturdays on the Plains with his sons over the course of almost forty years. Upon his retirement in 2003, Randy moved to Fairhope, AL where he was close to family and where he would eventually meet his wife and love of fifteen years, Betty “BJ” Murchison. He was an active member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church. In addition to his many travels with BJ, Randy loved family and spent a great deal of time with his grandchildren during his retirement. “Pop” loved to help “GeeGee”, as BJ is affectionately known by their twelve grandchildren, host the annual “Grand Camp Razzle Dazzle” for their grandchildren each summer. Pop absolutely adored them all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Eugenia Murchison. He is survived by his wife, Betty “BJ” Oliver Murchison of Fairhope. His sons, Scott (Nicole) Murchison of Fairhope, Drew (Christie) Murchison of Mobile, AL, and Brian Murchison of Atlanta, GA; stepchildren Ray (Rebecca) Stiegler of Pensacola, FL, Brandice (Joe) Griffin of Orange Beach, AL, Gavin (Jessica) Choice of Atlanta, GA; The mother of his three sons, Gail Murchison of Atlanta, GA; Twelve grandchildren: Presley Murchison and Hayden Woodford of Fairhope, Andrew Murchison and Caroline Murchison of Mobile, AL, Nicholas Stiegler, Alexander Stiegler, and Andrew Stiegler of Pensacola, FL, Charlotte Griffin, Mary Elliott Griffin, and Barrett Griffin of Orange Beach, AL, Vivian Choice and Harrison Choice of Atlanta, GA; Two sisters, Betty (Jim) Gay of Fairhope, Gloria Doss of Fort Worth, TX; A brother, W. Keith (Stewart Tomlinson) Murchison of Tallahassee, FL. A nephew, Jeff (Laurie) Gay of Summerdale, AL; Two nieces, Kelley (Brody) Cartwright of Fort Worth, TX, Jennifer (Jeremy) Messer of Pensacola, FL; His canine companion, Bailey. Visitation will be held at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Caring Ministries at Fairhope United Methodist Church.
