Born in Philadelphia PA on August 29, 1936. Died In Gulf Shores AL on November 3, 2019. James was 83 years old when he passed peacefully at his home in the company of his loved ones. Jim, as he was known by his many friends, was a graduate of North Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He served three years in the military and went on to serve the public as a law enforcement officer for the Bristol Township Police Department in Pennsylvania. After 26 years of faithful service, he happily retired to Port St. Lucie FL where he continued to pursue his many lifelong passions. He then moved to Guntersville AL where he met Rachel Horn and together they migrated south to Gulf Shores AL. One of Jim’s passions was playing music. He was self-taught on the guitar but could also play distinct instruments such as the banjo, dulcimer and steel guitar. He was a member of many bands throughout his lifetime, even once being asked to tour with the late Buddy Holly, Throughout his lifetime, Jim continued to bring joy to others through his music. His other passion was fishing. Jim loved to be by water whether it be the ocean or lake. He was sure to never miss an opportunity to fish, a favorite pastime enjoyed by all who came to visit. Jim was the first born child of Peter J. and Catherine M. Pregler (Burns) and siblings include two brothers, the late Joseph and Thomas and one sister, Regina (Czerwinski). Jim is also survived by his four children, James (Geraldine) Pregler, Laura (William) Finnimore, Nancy (Ken) Doggett and Karen (Andy) Barr and his close companion and best friend, Rachel Horn. Jim also is grandfather to twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at The Clubhouse at the Oyster Bay Village 2277 Oyster Bay Lane, Gulf Shores, AL 36542 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of James to The Salvation Army.
