James Leonard Pose Jr.

James L. Pose Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother departed this life October 8, 2024, at his home in Point Clear. Jim is survived by his spouse Maire Zieman Pose, his son Jake Pose (Jill), and his daughters, Katie Pose Scoggins (Jamie) and daughters Mary Lillian and Amelia James, Jamie Pose Roe (Kevin) and sons Jack, Charlie, Paul and Oliver of Marietta, GA, Leslie Pose Evans (Steuart) and son Steuart (Alexa) and daughter Elizabeth of Huntsville, AL, Julie Pose Whitchurch (Darin) and sons Matthew and Marty of Cedar Bluff, AL, Chrissy Pose Counts (Ebb) and son Ebb and daughter Emily Page and his sister Portia Pose Sheffield of Pascagoula, MS. Jim is preceded in death by his parents James L. and Vera Pose and his brother Douglas Pose. 

Jim loved the waters of Mobile Bay. He was raised on the Eastern Shore, raised his family on the Western Shore and spent the last 20 years of his life on the Eastern Shore in the home his father built. He enjoyed daily fishing and crabbing and sharing his delicious bounty with family and friends. A bounty which most often included vegetables fresh from his garden. 

When there wasn’t a fishing pole in Jim’s hand, there was a hammer. He had excellent carpentry skills and was always working on a project for his family or friends. 

Jim worked for the Mobile Bar Pilots for 62 years, dispatching pilots to the ships coming in and out of the Port of Mobile. Retirement simply was not for him. 

Jim’s sudden passing has left an immense aching in the hearts of his family and friends. An aching that can be somewhat relieved when we enjoy the simple pleasures of life and practice the skills, he taught us: gardening, cooking, fishing, carpentry, and nurturing friends and family. 

Visitation will be at 10 am October 18, 2024, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 370 S Section St. Fairhope, AL. Funeral Mass begins at 11am with internment immediately following. Pallbearers: Jamie Scoggins, Jack Davis, Steuart Evans III, Ebb Counts Jr., Matthew Whitchurch, Marty Whitchurch
