James Duke Kimbrough Jr, born on November 6, 1952, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on January 26, 2025 near his home in Daphne Alabama. He was a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

James, known by all as Jim, grew up in a close-knit family that shaped his kind and caring nature. He is survived by his devoted mother, Peggy T. Kimbrough, and his loving wife, Kathy Kimbrough. His legacy lives on through his siblings—his brother, John D Kimbrough (Claire), and sisters, Sarah K. Yocom (Roger) and Leslie K Sigmon (Joseph).

Jim took great joy in his role as an uncle to his seven nieces and nephews: John Kevin O’Brien, John Scott Esneault Jr., Jennifer Joy Howald, Anna Kathleen Yocom, Emily Frances Esneault, Sarah Claire Kimbrough, and Hannah Leigh Kimbrough. He also had three grandnieces, Ameya J. Howald, A. Chloe Jackson, and Peggy G. O’Brien.

James was preceded in death by his father, James D. Kimbrough Sr., and his sister, Rebecca K. O’Brien. The memory of these family members remains a treasured part of his life story.

Jim attended both Alabama and Penn State, graduating from the latter.  After serving two years in the US Army Medical Corps, he then obtained a Masters in Industrial Hygiene from University of Alabama in Birmingham.  With that, he served 20+ years with the Dept of the Navy in the Inspector General’s Office.  This career had him traveling the world over which he so cherished.

In retirement, Jim never stopped serving   Whether mission trips with his Church, or simply helping his friends, he was always giving of his time   He was most proud of 14 years as a volunteer at Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort, especially with his Parking Team Crew.

Jim’s life was filled with love, laughter, pranks, and dedication to those around him. He touched the hearts of many, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and kindness.  He built lifelong friendships every where he went. His family and friends will forever remember his warm smile, generous spirit, unwavering support, and his Christian heart
