James Henry (Jimmy) Gottler was born on August 14, 1953 to John P. Gottler Sr. and Thelma Sheppard Gottler of Elberta. He died December 25, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Angela G. Etheridge Gottler. They have two daughters: Andrea G. Gottler Starkie of Loxley AL, and Jamie L. Gottler Haislop (James) of Moyock, NC. Five grandchildren were his delight: Olivia Starkie, Mitchell Starkie, Claire Haislop, Aiden Haislop and Sophia Haislop. His canine companions, Annie, Lulu and Mic-Mic, will miss the trips to the co-op. He is survived by his sister, Betty Gottler and sister-in-law, Angela B. Gottler. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Gottler. Jimmy was a diesel mechanic by trade and worked in the areas of tractor and equipment repair and maintenance. He retired in December 28, 2015 from the Baldwin County Commission, Silverhill Highway Department. In retirement, he enjoyed farming, raising cattle and rebuilding tractors with friends. He was active in St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Elberta. Jimmy retired from active duty with the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department but continued to work at the Elberta Sausage Festivals held in the spring and fall. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to the community. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Highway 98 East, Elberta AL with Msgr. Stephen Martin presiding. Camo-Casual attire will be appropriate. A celebration of his life and legacy will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Benedict’s Catholic School, 12786 S. Illinois St., Elberta AL 36530, or to your favorite charity.
