James Glennon (Glen) Leighton, age 79, died on April 3, 2018. A kind and gentle soul, loved by many family and friends, he was a longtime resident of Fairhope, Alabama. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Rella Leighton of Fairhope. Raised in Mobile, he was a 1956 graduate of McGill Institute and attended Auburn University. He served six years in the Alabama National Guard. Glen left Mobile for Atlanta where he was employed by Motorola. He went from Atlanta to New York where he worked for EDS and later was transferred to Dallas. He later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for ten years. While in Texas, he attended many Dallas Cowboys games, including a Super Bowl. After retirement, he moved to Venice, Florida. In 2003 Glen moved to Fairhope, where he was an active member of the Quail Creek Golf Course. An avid and accomplished golfer all his life, he played many major courses across the country. In Fairhope, he also volunteered at Thomas Hospital for seven years where he drove the shuttle. The last seven years he spent summers at Lake Forest Resort in East Wakefield, New Hampshire, his summer home, and was a member of the Lake Forest Golf Course. He was accompanied there by his fiancée and beloved companion, Grace Dixon. They traveled extensively, including to Europe and New England. Glen is survived by his brother, Philip Henry Leighton, Jr. (Sandra); his sister Eulalie (Lee) Leighton Masterson Duffill (Brian); three nephews, Jason Masterson (Andrea) of Dahlongea, Georgia; Kevin Masterson (Maria) of Fairhope; Wayne Leighton (Elizabeth) of Alexandria, Virginia; and two nieces, Sara Ameringer (Greg) of Cypress, Texas; and Julia Masterson Shea (Michael) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; six great nephews and three great nieces; and his fiancée Grace Dixon of Fairhope. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 6 at Wolfe Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, with private interment in the Colony Cemetery in Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
