James Clarke, Sr.

James Clarke, Sr. departed this life on February 21, 2024, at 5:30 pm, in his home with his loving family.

He was born in Creola, Alabama to the late Joseph and Ethel Mae Clarke. He is preceded in death by his son, Nathaniel Clarke. He was baptized at St. James Catholic Church in Prichard, Alabama at an early age. James attended and graduated from Mattie T. Blount High School. Received his BA from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska during his tour in the US Air Force. He retired after 21 years in the military. Moved home to Mobile, Alabama, and went to work for the United Postal Service. He also retired from the post office.

He was a member of the Azalea City Golf Association and the Alpha Phi fraternity. James also enjoyed sports. Among his favorites besides golf, he played basketball for the military and high school. He also enjoyed the pool and swimming as a young man. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Royal Clarke to whom he was married for 61 years. They had four children, James Clarke, Jr., Nathaniel Clarke (deceased}, Patricia (Robert} Dubose, and Patrick Clarke. Devoted Brother Eddie (Faye} Westry; sister, Maxine (Robert} Grissett. Devoted brother-in-laws, Reginald (Jeffrey}Royal, Ronald Royal, and Kenneth Royal. Devoted grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Devoted friends William Penn of Maryland}, Jerry Freeman of New Hampshire, and a host of family and friends.

Special thanks to the Nurses and supervisors from Springhill Hospice for the excellent care and compassion of our loved one. Also, Ors and nurses employed at Fresenius Kidney Care.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held from Christ the King Church on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 1:00 pm with Father Savoie officiating the service. The family will receive friends from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
