Jack Walton Harris, Jr., age 94, a resident of Daphne, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021. Jack was born in Chattanooga, TN on August 31, 1927 to Jack Walton Harris, Sr. and Violet Garner Harris.

He attended high school in Chattanooga, TN and Detroit, MI. He went on to attend the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1950. While in college he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity.

Jack was a proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. During his time in service, he played on ComServPac, Pearl Harbor baseball team which finished second in the All-Navy Series held in Quantico, VA in 1948.

Throughout his life, Jack was employed by Lookout Oil & Refining Co. in Chattanooga, Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, Wabash Railroad, and Norfolk Western Railroad in Birmingham, as well as the Alabama State Docks in Mobile. Over the course of his career, he served as President of the Birmingham Traffic & Transportation Club and co-founded the Alabama World trade association.

He was very active in his community as a member of Spanish Fort United Methodist and the Lake Forest Golf & Country Club where he was known as “The Czar” amongst his golfing friends.

He was passionate about the Tennessee Vols football, basketball, and Lady Vols basketball teams. Jack also loved the Atlanta Braves and the New Orleans Saints.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 67 years, Maxine Charles Harris; brother, Eddie Harris and sisters, Dorothy Sailors and Shirley Jordan.  

Jack is survived by his children Marta Manderson and Charles Harris and his wife Virginia Harris; grandchildren, Amanda Harris, Brandon Harris and Amy Harris; great-grandchildren, Jayden Harris and Charlotte Harris; many beloved nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
