Henry David Skinner, age 94, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019 at his family home. He was born on August 29, 1924 in Mobile, Alabama and was a longtime resident of Montrose, Alabama. Mr. Skinner was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Curtis Skinner and Lillian Fryar Skinner; a sister, Lillian Skinner Davis; and his beloved wife, Ruth Christian Skinner. He is survived by his son, David Griffin Skinner (Sandra), and grandsons, David Bates Skinner and Graham Christian Skinner; he is also survived by his daughter, Barbara Gay Skinner Crane (John), grandsons, John Blake Crane (Sarah) and Ryan Bailey Crane and great grandchildren, Stella Leigh Crane and John Dylan Crane. Mr. Skinner grew up in Mobile and attended Old Shell Road School, Barton Academy and Julius T. Wright/UMS, where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. He served in the Navy and was a part of WWII D-Day invasion . He enjoyed hunting and playing golf, especially with his dear friends, Charles Falkenberry, Dean Schmitt and H.J. Miller. He was especially devoted to and supportive of his grandchildren. A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations made in Mr. Skinner’s name be directed to Ecumenical Ministries or Montrose Cemetery Association.
