Ron Arnold was a native of Mobile and resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away, Tuesday, September 7, 2021. He was born July 19, 1944 to parents Frances Hickman Arnold and John Calvin Arnold, Jr. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and had a long career in retail and food service management in both Houston, Texas and Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was a lifelong supporter of theatre and the arts and an active volunteer in local and regional charities, non-profits and special events. He served on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce and the Gulf Shores Retail Merchants Association. He was a committee chair for the local chapter’s American Cancer Society Annual Gala and a regional representative on many of its committees. He remained active in the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber. For more than 20 years, Ron served as the Fine Arts Chairman for the chamber’s Annual National Shrimp Festival and was instrumental in its Youth for Art program. Ron is survived by his sisters, Connie Miller (Bubba) and Cindy Stiles, nieces Whitney Miller and Maren Cook (James), nephew Jason Miller, great nieces Joy Miller and Lilly Cook and his beloved dog, Angel. He is also survived by his stepmother Patricia Arnold, stepsisters Diane Downs Hunt (David) and Ann-Victoria Waters and stepbrother David Downs (Kim). He will be missed by a legion of extended family and friends and a shrimp festival community who loved him. Whether they knew him as Ron, Ronnie, Brother or Uncle Brother, any friend of his, human or canine, had a cheerleader for life. He was fiercely loyal and was a constant source of encouragement for those he loved, for children he adored, for artists he admired and for underdogs who needed support. He will forever be remembered for his kind spirit, generous nature, passion for animals, love of good food (especially those desserts) and his sharp, witty opinions, always freely shared. His family encourages friends to hug the people you love and call the ones you can’t hug today, as tomorrow is not promised. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will follow in the chapel. Donations in Ron’s honor can be made to the American Cancer Society or the North Baldwin County Animal Shelter.
