Geraldine Wall Murray, age 91, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Thomas Hospital on November 16, 2022. She was born January 28, 1931 in Gillsburg, MS to Hollis Lee Wall and Addie May Easley Wall. She married William Dewey Murray April 24, 1950. As he served as an educator in multiple Southern Baptist colleges, she made her own mark on those communities. From Howard College (now Samford University), to Louisiana College, to Judson College, she adeptly filled the role of wife of a college dean; entertaining, hosting and loving others were her special talents. Along the way, she built a network of close, lifelong, and devoted friends. After his retirement they established themselves in Montgomery, AL, to be close to their grandchildren. Later, they lived in Orange Beach and then Fairhope. Geraldine was a member of First Baptist Church Fairhope where she was an active member of WMU and the JOY Sunday School class. She was truly a JOY to each of its members. She loved to entertain her friends and her mission each day was to do something for someone else which she did well - whether it was making someone her famous pound cake, chicken salad or pancakes or just making a phone call to give someone words of encouragement. She devotedly loved the Lord, her family, and the color purple and she was the epitome of a true Christian southern lady. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 57 years, Dr. William D. Murray, and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, William D. “Rusty” (Patti) Murray Jr. of Fairhope, AL and three grandchildren: Holly (Jonathan) Hooks, Birmingham, AL; William D. (Tiffany) Murray III, Fairhope, AL; and Jackson Wheeler Murray, Fairhope, AL, and eight great grandchildren: Jonathan Michael Hooks, Jr., Spencer Murray Hooks, Mary Claire Hooks, Andrew David Hooks, Camille Elizabeth Hooks, Catherine Anne Hooks, Annabella Lane Murray and William Maxwell Murray; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends. “Granny” as she was known to her grandchildren centered her life around her grandchildren. She truly loved her family and we all can say that to know her was to love her. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Fairhope. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am, the Rev. Dr. Jerry Henry officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000 or Women’s Care Medical Center, PO Box 1610, Robertsdale, AL 36567.
