George Timothy (Tim) Gaston, a long-time resident of Mobile, died Friday evening, March 27, 2020. Mr. Gaston was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Charles William Gaston and Jane Friedel Gaston and his wife Lyn Love Gaston. He is survived by his wife, Arvid Engwald Gaston of Fairhope, his daughter Kathryn Gaston Douglas (Brown) and their children Benton, Grace, Charlie, and Joe of Oklahoma City; his son Ross Gaston of Mobile and his children KC Gaston of Birmingham, and William Gaston of Mobile; in addition to Laura Jackson Cleary (Tim) and their children Michael and Harmon of Arlington, Virginia; and Ted Jackson (Jennifer) and their children Emily and Charlie from McLean, Virginia; his sister Jeanne Gaston Houston (Gorman) of Tuscaloosa; and other relatives. Mr. Gaston was born on October 31, 1946, in Mobile and grew up in Bay Minette, Alabama. He graduated from Baldwin County High School and attended Marion Military Institute before transferring to the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu social fraternity. Mr. Gaston left the University to enlist in the United States Navy in 1967. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam and was stationed in San Diego, California. When he returned from his military service, he graduated from the University of Mississippi, and lived in Tupelo, Mississippi, before moving to Mobile in 1975. Mr. Gaston was a senior partner of the accounting firm Smith, Dukes, and Buckalew in Mobile before he retired in 2019 and moved to Fairhope. He was a long-time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior Warden and a member of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. Mr. Gaston was actively involved in many civic organizations in Mobile, including service on the Board of Directors of Providence Hospital, the Providence Hospital Foundation board, the Mobile Opera board, and the board of the Mobile Museum of Art. He was a member of the Red Elephant Club of Mobile, a prominent member of a Mobile mystic society, a former member of the Mobile Touchdown Club, and a strong supporter of the Child Advocacy Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Mobile, 4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36608.
