Gene A. Cox

Gene A. Cox, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2018 in Fairhope, AL. Gene was born January 21, 1937 in Red Level, AL to Mack David Cox and Virla (Gorum) Cox. He graduated from Fairhope High School in 1955; spending one year at Auburn University before joining the Army in 1956 and serving for three years. In 1961, Gene began employment with Chevron Oil Company in Mobile, AL, and retired with Chevron after 33 years. After retiring from Chevron, Gene moved to Fairhope and worked part-time at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL for 20 years. Gene enjoyed working and staying active. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved Auburn football and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gene is survived by his wife Kathleen Cox; two daughters, Ashley (Cox) Pflum and husband Bob, and Cindy (Cox) Bernd; his son, David Cox and wife Wendy, as well as five grandchildren: Audrey Cox, Trevor Cox, Phillip Cox, Rachel Pflum and Deanna Pflum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack David Cox and Virla (Gorum) Cox; his sister, Margie (Cox) Thompson; and brother, Greal Cox. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 19698 S. Greeno Rd., Fairhope, AL 36532 at 4:30pm-5:00pm for family and 5pm-7pm for friends. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 10am at Memory Gardens of Fairhope, in Fairhope, AL.
