Gayle Tolbert Bishop

Gayle Tolbert Bishop, a native of Bay Minette and long-time resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away on April 01, 2023. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, she leaves behind a devoted husband of over fifty years, Ernest W. Bishop; four children whom she loved more than herself, Beverly Young, Tiffany Villanova (Paul), Bunky Bishop (Mary Kathryn), and Brandi Kulman (Sam, deceased); seven grandchildren who owned her heart, Shelby Young, Ryan Young, Daniel Villanova (Elizabeth), Louis Villanova, Hays Bishop, Mollie Katen Bishop, and Killian Detemple; four brothers, one sister, a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends, including long-time friend Bob Young and life long friends David and Nancy Wallace. Gayle had a huge heart and was a champion to children. She was always available to listen and offer advice, comfort, solace, or refuge. Her arms, her door and her table were always open. She never turned anyone away. She possessed an awesome strength of spirit and an endless capacity to love. She was happiest when her house was full of children, laughter, and song. During her 37 years in the accounting department at The Grand Hotel, Gayle made many friends and touched many lives. She had a smile and a compliment for everyone. She wanted everyone around her to feel loved and appreciated. She will be truly missed. Gayle had very strong opinions about flowers. She believed that if you wanted to bring her flowers, you should do it while she was alive to enjoy them, not after she died. To honor her memory and continue her legacy of feeding one and all, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Prodisee Pantry. She made us promise not to have a funeral service for her. To honor her wishes and her, we are having a Celebration of Life party. We will wear bright colors and tell colorful stories and cry only happy tears as we remember a remarkable woman. The Celebration of Life party will be held on April 29, 2023, at Fairhope United Methodist Church in Wesley Hall. We will gather from 2-4pm with a brief oratory at 3.
