Freddie Wayne Myers, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Fairhope, Alabama, on Friday the 29th of June 2018, after succumbing to chronic idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Freddie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gloria Maura Myers; son, Craig Myers and two daughters, Melissa Kalisz (husband Scott) and Kristin Gothers (husband Matthew); grandchildren, Paige and Tyler (Craig), Joseph, Luke and Faith (Melissa), Ethan, Leah and Bennett (Kristin), and two step-grandchildren, Jake and Ryan (Kristin); four great grandchildren, Jaxson, Mason, Samuel and Addelynn; six siblings, Lanelle Titello, Debra Smith, Linda Harrison, Ricky Myers, Tonya Smith, and Kim Collins; mother-in-law, Lucille Reinkendorff; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents, Lera and Fred Myers and five siblings: Bud Myers, Betty Tullos, Tony Myers, Michael Myers and Marty Myers. Freddie was born on October 30, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama. He excelled in high school athletics such as baseball, football, basketball and track. After high school, Freddie attended the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of South Alabama. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Groton, Connecticut, where he served in the Submarine Force on the USS Halfbeak. He met and married his soulmate, Gloria Maura during this time in 1968 and settled in East Hartford, Connecticut, where they raised their family. Freddie continued his education at Manchester Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Accounting. His 37 years at the Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford, Connecticut, began in a survey crew as a rodman. Freddie then moved up to party chief and finally finished his career as an administrator in construction engineering. Freddie’s love of sports and his children’s involvement in local athletics led him to several years of coaching baseball and football where he touched the lives of many young athletes. He volunteered several years on the field with East Hartford baseball teams IOOF, Woodland Auto Body and DeVaux Shell, and the Cardinals football team. Coach Myers also worked with the Bolton Tigers and East Catholic High School football teams in the 1980s. After retiring in 2005, Freddie and Gloria spent some time in Florida before relocating to Fairhope, Alabama, where he was the president of his neighborhood association (Sedgefield) for 10 years. During this time he worked at the Experience at Marriott Lakewood Golf Club. Freddie enjoyed golfing, dancing and playing cards with his close friends. You could find Freddie under the hood of many antique muscle cars and walking the grounds of local car shows and swap meets. He was an avid Yankees and die-hard Alabama football supporter. Roll Tide! Freddie was extremely devoted to his wife and family. He enjoyed family time and attended his grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts and ceremonies. Freddie always encouraged and motivated his family to do their best to succeed in all aspects of life. We know he is watching over us. We will miss his humor, smiles, and hugs. He will always be with us in our hearts and his memories will live on. Together as a family, we welcome you to join us in his memory. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, form 5-7pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope 19698 Greeno Rd (hwy 98) Fairhope, AL 36532. The church service will be held Friday, July 6th at 11:00am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fairhope, AL 36532. Reception to follow in the parish hall following the service. A Connecticut service will be arranged at a later date this summer.
