Freddie (Mae) Harris Young, age 78, a native and longtime resident of Daphne, went home Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Freddie was a 1962 graduate of the Baldwin County Training School (BCTS) and later served as board member during and after the formation of the BCTS Museum and Heritage Fest. She was a dedicated member of the KPCLA Court 170 for which she worked as co-chair of the scholarship committee. As the wife of a 27-year military veteran she traveled extensively while raising her family. She lovingly served as friend and mentor to many young family members and friends Freddie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Ret. Msg. Johnny Young; her sons Rodney W Young and Michael J Young; her Older brother Willie Harris, and her sisters Jean Dupree and Alice Sapp. Freddie is survived by her daughters, Denise Young Shaw and Jacqueline A. Young of Daphne, AL, and daughter-in-law Victoria Young, along with seven loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sisters, Elnora Gill of Birmingham, AL, Lizzie Harris of Daphne, AL, Dorothy (Leo) Dixon of Baton Rouge, LA, Helen Harris of Daphne, Al, Betty (Floyd) Blevins of Selma, AL, brothers; John Harris of Selma, AL, Curtis (Cassandra) Harris of Daphne, AL, Henry Harris of Daphne, AL, Anthony (Cassandra) Harris of Selma, AL, Kenneth (Pagan) Harris of Birmingham, AL, Darrell Harris of Daphne, AL. Two dear sisters-in-law; Mary Ingram of Sparta, GA and Christine (David) Weathers of Milton, FL and two special brothers-in-law; Willie J. Young Jr of Loxley, AL and Anthony (Irmastine) Young Sr of Loxley, AL. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. Her life-long friends from the military Martha Heath and Judy N Johnson, her church family from the Shrine of the Holy cross, especially her cherished Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Bishop Howze court 170. Visitation will be held Friday, May 12, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11:00am at the Shrine of the Holy Cross. Burial will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
