On July 4, 2022, Eunice Merchant, 89, of Summerdale, Alabama, passed away peacefully to be with Jesus. She was born in McIntosh, Alabama, on January 19, 1933, to Ophel and Emma Lane. Eunice had a twin brother named Amos, who only lived to be 8 days old. She married Pete Wilson on August 7, 1954, and they were blessed with four children: Norma, June, David, and Billie Jo. Eunice loved her family. She had a strong work ethic and was known for being a sweet and kind person. She loved Jesus and was constantly praying and thanking Him. She wrote many letters to Jesus in her journals. The greatest gift that she passed down to her children was her faith in Jesus Christ and the peace of knowing she will spend eternity in Heaven. Her memory will live on with her sister: Linnie (Calkins) Beasley, and her beloved children: Norma (Buddy) Giles, June Wilson, David (Faith) Wilson, and Billie Jo (Gary) Underwood. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Jeremiah Giles, Joshua Giles, Jodie (Giles) Willis, Jon Jon Giles, Little David Wilson, Brent Wilson, Eric Wilson, Katelyn (Wilson) Thigpen, Natalie Wilson, Brad Wilson and Courtney Wilson. She had 19 great grandchildren. She will be missed greatly. Eunice was preceded in death by her first husband, Pete Wilson, and second husband Kenneth Merchant; parents Ophel and Emma Lane; and siblings, Clarence Calkins, Flora (Calkins) Reed, Lucille (Lane) Lutz, Lloyd Lane, Sr., Amos Lane, Prentiss Lane, and Luther Ben Lane. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM with the celebration of her homecoming immediately following at 3:00 PM at Summerdale Assembly of God Church located at 404 E. Broadway St Summerdale, AL followed by her burial at Wynn Cemetery in Summerdale, AL.
