GULF SHORES, ALEugene B. “Butch” Vicars, Jr. age 70, a resident of Gulf Shores. After a long, hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer, he went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2017.This story starts many years ago when a little girl fell in love with a little boy. Brenda knew then that he would be her husband... even if he didn't. Butch grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and after graduating from McAdory High School in 1965, he enlisted in the Marines in 1966-67 as a part of the Charlie Battery 1/13. He met back up with that little girl and married her on February 3, 1971. They moved to Hopewell, Alabama and raised their 3 children, attending Hopewell First Baptist Church. In 1989, they moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama and watched their children raise 5 beautiful grandkids, who were Butch's pride and joy.Butch worked at Barbers, then Dairy Fresh for over 40 years. After retiring 7 years ago, his years were filled with the things he loved: traveling, fishing, golfing and spending time with his wife, kids, family, and friends.He is preceded in death by his father, E.B. Vicars, Sr.; mother, Annie Mae Vicars; sister, Debra Kaye Peters; and brother, Jimmy Vicars.He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda Vicars of Gulf Shores; daughters, Teena Philips (Ryan) and Staci Robinson (Jason), also of Gulf Shores; son, Jason Vicars (Alicia) of Summerdale; grandchildren, Jaron, Haley, Hayden, Callie, and Hunter; brother, Danny Vicars of Montgomery; many other loving relatives and friends.Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Alabama State Veteran’s Cemetery, Spanish Fort.
