Emily Leigh Smilie

Emily Sitterle Smilie, age 67, born in Mobile, Alabama, and a resident of Daphne, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022. Emily graduated in 1973 from Murphy High School, and in 1988 from the University of South Alabama with a degree in English Literature. She taught middle school English for 30 years at both Little Flower Catholic School and UMS-Wright Preparatory School. Emily participated weekly in perpetual adoration at Christ the King Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to classic radio shows, watching cooking shows, and was an avid reader of both contemporary and classic literature. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Marseille Sitterlee and Aline Carr Sitterlee Brewton; and her sister, Anne Sitterlee Deakle. Emily is survived by her husband, Charles; two sons, Michael Andrew (Kimberly) of Huntsville, David Matthew (Melissa) of Spanish Fort; four grandchildren, James, John David, Thomas, and Luke; her brother Julius Marseille Sitterlee, Jr. (Helen) and sister Sharron Sitterlee Luce. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, 11:00am at Christ the King Church, Daphne with Fr. Matthew O'Connor celebrating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass in the church, interment will follow in Belforest Catholic Cemetery, Daphne.
