Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Lilly Dale Barrett passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Westminster Village. She was 96. Betty Ann was born August 5, 1924 at Fort Sheridan, IL, to Col. And Mrs. Edmund Jones Lilly, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC. Betty Ann had close ties to the United States military as a devoted Army daughter, dedicated Air Force wife, and loving military mother to her five children. The military greatly shaped Betty Ann’s life, both the joys and tragedies. She met every situation with grace, class and steadfastness. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile, AL; Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority; Military Officers Association of America; The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America; Daughters of the American Revolution; and Daughters of the United States Army. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, ret. Col. Jack Delmar Dale, Jr., USAF and ret. Col. Drew James Barrett, Jr., USMC; her brother, Edmund J. Lilly, III and sister, Victoria MacMillan. She is survived by her children, Jack Delmar Dale, III; Ashton Elizabeth Dale; Edmund J. Lilly “Teddy” Dale; Victoria Dale Sharpe (George); Keith MacRae Dale (Joyce); nephew, Ralph Arthur Koch, III (Pam); and stepson, John Arthur Barrett (JoAnn). She had 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A private burial service will be held in Fayetteville, NC at Cross Creek Cemetery.
