Eleanor Deaux Naughton, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, after an extended illness.
Born November 4, 1930, in Summerdale, Alabama, she moved to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, in 1965, and lived her last two years with her daughter in Brunswick, Georgia. Ellie showed an early aptitude for academics when she skipped the first grade and went on to score the highest on the state board exam for registered nurses in Alabama in 1955. She valued her time as an operating room nurse, but her greatest passions were her family and her church.
She was married for 40 years to the love of her life, Joseph Naughton, until his death in 1995. She is survived by three children, Robert Naughton (Hadalie), Diana Kelley (Stephen), and David Naughton; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She had been an active volunteer as a classroom parent, as a Girl Scout leader, in the League of Women voters, and as a church leader throughout her life. In her later years she reveled in attending family graduations, birthdays, weddings, and holiday celebrations.
A graveside service will be held at Wynn Cemetery on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1:00 pm in Summerdale, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ft. Walton Beach Seventh-day Adventist Church, P O Box 1209 Ft. Walton Beach, Florida 32548, or Georgia Hospice Care 777 Gloucester St, Brunswick, GA 31520.
