Edward S. Stone, III, 85, avid golfer, gin rummy player, and proud graduate of the University of Alabama (where he played drums in the Million Dollar Band) passed away May 5, 2023, at his Fairhope home after a brief illness.
After graduation, Ed served in the U.S. Navy for three years and then acquired and expanded a successful pharmaceutical R&D, manufacturing, and packaging company (Denison Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) in Warwick, R.I. where he raised twins (Edward, IV and Andrew) and triplets (Laura S. Quam, Bradley, and Thomas) before retiring to his south Alabama birthplace of Mobile in 2001. Ed was a devout Christian, a member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope and the Truthseekers Sunday School Class. Ed was a man of quick wit and an engaging personality, and he enjoyed Alabama football, single malt scotch, and a good cigar, in that order.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Laura Minhinnette Stone, his father, Edward II, and his sister, Emily Crowder of Johnson City, TN. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years Janice Stone, his five children, his two stepchildren (Bret Krock and Lisa Isbell of Memphis, TN), and numerous friends and relatives.
Ed, and his stories about his colorful ancestors from Calvert, Alabama, will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Fairhope from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 9, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Methodist Church Cemetery in Calvert.
