Edna Eugenia Hammons Townsend

Edna Eugenia Hammons Townsend, age 90, resident of Mobile, AL, went to Heaven Sunday evening, December 1, 2024. She was born August 7, 1934, in Pineville, MS. She graduated Vigor High School, Prichard, AL in 1953 and on her 19th birthday she married Donnie Townsend of Mobile. Edna worked in the medical field, spending most of her career years at Premier Medical West in Mobile, AL.

Edna loved and doted on her kids and grandkids. She loved to crochet, cook for others, and was a Master Gardener. She was the world's best mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She will be sorely missed.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donnie Benjamin Townsend; her son, Jeffrey Glenn Townsend; her parents, Chester and Claudia Hammons; her siblings, Robert Hammons, Mack Hammons, and Addie Protivnak. Edna is survived by her daughter, Nancy Townsend Gonzales (Bruce) of Mobile; chosen friends, Lori and Ed Adams of Eight Mile, AL; Craig and Ericka Brown of Port Charlotte, FL; 4 grandchildren: Alex Townsend, Jessica Townsend Prestwood (Smith), Pace Townsend, and Kaytlyn Townsend; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 chosen grandchildren, Tina Brown Littleton (Lawrence), Darren Brown (Rebecca), Justin Brown (Lisa), and Alysen Brown Lucas; 10 chosen great-grandchildren; other loving relatives and friends. 

Graveside services will be held at the Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 am.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, 2:00pm, at Nancy and Bruce's home in Mobile.
