Williams Daphne, AL Dr. J. Douglas Williams, Ret. Col., age 80, a loving husband, father, brother and wonderful grandfather “Papa”. Who loved Jesus and went to His mansions on February 5, 2020. Doug and Nelda meet at a Methodist Youth Camp Relay. A short courtship led to the wedding of two young teenagers that lasted 63 years. Doug was born in Jackson, MS, where he was called to preach as a teenager and just knew that was God’s calling for his life. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Huntington College, Montgomery, AL in 1963, Master’s degree of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary School, Wilmore, KY in 1966 and Doctrine of Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary School, Wilmore, KY in 1987. Doug pastored churches in Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama and Florida for sixty-two years. Dr. Williams served with his wife by his side as a district superintendent for the Alabama/West Florida Conference. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nelda and daughter, Racheal Leigh Williams. Survivors include his sister, Betty (Sonny) Lockhart; one son, James Skip (Myra) Williams of Daphne, AL; daughter, Ora D. Williams Johnson of Robertsdale, AL ; seven-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Byrd, Katie (Greg) Williams, Jamie ( Anthony) Powell, Zoe Grace Williams, Douglas Johnson, Thomas (Kayln) Johnson and Ashley Stewart; great grandchildren, Lauryn, Taylor and John Michael Byrd, Christian Williams, Bentley and Joshua Stewart; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 11:00 am at Daphne United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of the service. Interment will follow at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
