Dr. Fredric “Fred” Michaels died at home early morning, March 2, 2021, after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He is survived by his wife, Ashley Gallagher Michaels; his stepson, Alan Burkes and step grandson, Jack Wade Burkes; his sister, Dr. Nancy Cohen and niece, Dr. Rebecca Chazanoff. In addition, he is survived by a large group of people whose lives he touched in both a personal and professional way. Born August 11, 1944 in New York City, Fred graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Pepperdine University. He then received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Auburn University. He did his clinical internship in Minneapolis under the direction of Dr. Shirley Mink; and after thawing out, he moved to Fairhope. He provided psychological services to mental health clinics in both Atmore and Monroeville as well as helping multiple people in his own clinical practice. Fred loved children and was involved in several reading programs. He loved to purchase books to be enjoyed by kids that he knew or were just passing by. He delighted in seeing happy smiles on their faces. His generous spirit was a vital part of who he was. The funeral will take place Sunday, March 7, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Private interment ceremony will follow at Fairhope Colony Cemetery.
