Dorothea "Dee" Wilson-Jones
Dee Wilson-Jones died peacefully at home on August 7, 2024. She was 74. Born in Frankfurt, Germany and raised in Maryland, Dee married her first husband William at a young age and the couple had one son together. Dee then moved to New Orleans, went to nursing school, and became a well-regarded nurse anesthetist in the New Orleans area. It was there that she met and married Dr. Frank M. Wilson. Dee and Frank enjoyed sailing and they kept a boat in Slidell, Louisiana and Josephine, Alabama. It was through her enjoyment of sailing and the water that Dee met Mikey Jones of Fairhope, Alabama. She quickly fell in love with Mikey, relocated to Fairhope, and they were married in Fiji in 1996.
Dee then worked as a nurse anesthetist at Thomas Hospital until her retirement. The Jones’s were active members of the Fairhope Yacht Club. In addition to sailing, the couple enjoyed renovating many charming cottages in Fairhope and Magnolia Springs. Dee would often say of the gregarious Mikey that he “worked the front of the fence” while she, the self-proclaimed introvert, “worked the back of the fence.” Dee was a voracious reader and always kept abreast of current affairs. The couple enjoyed traveling, spending many summers in Camden, Maine and especially enjoyed their trips to Argentina and Vietnam. Dee was an excellent cook, mastering the Creole/Cajun French cuisine of New Orleans in addition to trying her hand at Indian and other Asian cuisines. She was also a Baldwin County Master Gardener. Dee loved animals and was a generous contributor to The Haven No-Kill Animal Shelter in Fairhope.
Dee was predeceased by her husband, Mikey Jones, who passed too young in January of 2011. She is survived by her beloved dog Teddy, brother Donnie, son Billy, daughter-in-law Judy, sister-in-law Susie, ex-husband Frank, and many friends and neighbors in Fairhope and beyond.
A celebration of life will be held at Mikey’s Tree & Bench, North Bluff Park, located on N. Bayview Street, Fairhope, on November 10, 2024, at 4:00pm. Friends, neighbors, and everyone who knew and loved Dee & Mikey are invited to attend and share their fond memories. In lieu of flowers or cards the family requests that you please consider a donation to The Haven Animal Shelter in memory of Dee Wilson & Mikey Jones. https://www.havenforanimals.org/project/memorial-and-honorary-donations/
