Doris was born October 18, 1935 in Point Clear, Alabama to Percy and Mae Eernisse Pose. She spent her childhood fishing and crabbing in Mobile Bay along with her siblings. Doris married David Delanor Bishop, Sr. June 27, 1952. Together, with their children, they farmed potatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, pecans, soybeans, corn, and cattle in Barnwell, Alabama. In 1980, she and her husband moved back to the land where she was born and raised in Point Clear, Alabama. She worked in retail for 7 years before retiring and becoming the jubilee queen. She was featured in many news articles showcasing her knowledge of the local phenomenon, the jubilee. Nothing excited her more than the mornings there would be a jubilee, and she was documented as seeing flounder, shrimp, eels, stingrays, crabs, and even turtles come to shore during jubilees throughout the years. How fitting in the days leading up to and morning of her death, there were documented jubilees in Point Clear. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her giving heart, and her love of the Bay.
