Donald Lee Chesscher II, a native of Bloomington, IL and a longtime resident of Elberta, AL, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023.
Donald, “Don”, was born October 13, 1958 to Ruby and Donald Chesscher I. After a nomadic childhood, Don settled in Robertsdale, AL as a young teen with Aaron Childress and his family. He attended and graduated Robertsdale High School class of ‘76 and went on to earn an Associate degree at Bishop State Community College. He began work at Rohr/Collins Aerospace May 18, 1985 and retired 36 years later as Director of Operations on January 1, 2022. After six months of retirement, he returned to Collins to teach part time.
While at Robertsdale High School, Don was set up on a blind date by friends where he met Wendy, and the rest is history! They married November 3, 1978 in Pensacola, FL, moved to Elberta, AL, and raised three children, Donnie III, Kristy, and Danielle. Don was a loving husband of 44 years and a loving father, but really found his calling when he became a PaPa to all of his grandchildren. He was an active member of Berean Baptist Church for 34 years where he was a deacon and taught Sunday School. In his spare time, Don enjoyed playing with his grandkids, working in the yard, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his sister Tammy Chesscher, brother Denny Chesscher, mother, Ruby Wach, father, Donald Chesscher I, and stepfather Terry Wach.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Chesscher of Elberta; children Donald L. “Donnie” Chesscher III (Beverly) of Elberta, Kristy Chesscher Gunia (Guy) of Cedarburg, WI, Danielle Chesscher Chavis (Brandon Hudson) of Elberta, and Anthony Joe “AJ” Reshwan (Danee) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Cirenzo, Raymond, Cydnee, Brayden, Barrett, and Delaney; siblings James Chesscher (Leslie) of San Antonio, TX, Mike Chesscher of Belton, MO, Karen Dooley (Ron) of Petersburg, IL, Stormy Wach of Petersburg, IL, and Bryan Wach of Springfield, IL, and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley Chapel on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at Berean Baptist Church in Elberta, AL on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
Interment will immediately follow the service at Lay Cemetery in Elberta, AL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Berean Baptist Church of Elberta, AL.
