Deloris Virginia Oberg

Deloris Virginia Oberg, lifelong resident of Fairhope, AL, passed June 27, 2019, at age 99. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John “Jack” Oberg, and sister, Willie Kelley, of Ft. Worth, Texas. Mrs. Oberg was the daughter of Clara and Hoyt Chase of St. Petersburg, FL. Survivors include her daughter, Geraldine (Ronald) Kopesky, granddaughter, Britten Britt, great granddaughter, Maggie Britt, great grandson, Russell Steiner, of Fairhope, AL, and her daughter, Carolyn (William) Bailey, grandson, Troy (Belinda) Bailey, great grandsons, Travis Bailey and Austin (Alejandra) Bailey, and great great grandson, Jaxon Bailey, of Jefferson, Georgia. Virginia and Jack met and graduated from Auburn University. They were married in California in 1942, prior to Jack’s departure for active duty overseas in WWII. They resided in Fairhope where she was active in many social and civic activities. Virginia and girlfriend, Buddy Goodard, founded the first Brownie and Girl Scout troop in Fairhope and was a longtime member of the Knights of Knighties. Virginia and Jack were charter members of the Fairhope Yacht Club and Quail Creek Golf Club. In the forties and early fifties, Virginia and Jack enjoyed sailing and participating in regattas. They had a reserved table at Fairhope Yacht Club and dined every weekend with family and friends. They enjoyed boating trips, fishing and fun summers on the Gaston’s pier. Special thanks to the employees at The Brennity Memory Care 400 hall for the last six years and to Karen Shoemaker and Kendrid Hospice for their love, companionship and support in her last months. The family would also like to thank her neighbors, Joe and Priscilla Comer, Joe and Sissy Birindelli, and Melanie Beiser for their kindness and thoughtfulness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 10th at 11am in the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope.
