Danny Doege was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1948. He and his family migrated south in 1964 to Elberta, Alabama. He graduated from Foley High School and joined the US Air Force shortly after. Danny went to college in Bowling Green, where he earned a master’s degree and met his wife, Peggy. They were married after college and built a large home in Pensacola, Florida. He began working at NAS Pensacola and raised a family of five children: Chris, Dawn, Ryan, Rebecca, and Melissa. When Peggy passed away in June 2013, Danny built a bamboo memorial garden for her with his mother, Evelyn. It turned into a full-time business, and he sold bamboo nationwide until his death. His knowledge of bamboo was extensive, and he was renowned for his beautiful garden that had worldwide visitors. He cultivated a farm in rural Alabama where he spent his time with his friend, Debbie, and raised many peacocks, chickens, and other fowls. During his lifetime, Danny cultivated many skills, such as woodworking, electrical, and farming. He was a hardworking man his entire life. Danny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy; son, Chris; and his mother, Evelyn. He is survived by his three sisters, Cherryl, Marlene, and Evie, and his four other children.
