Craig Floyd Shay

Craig Floyd Shay, age 73, a resident of Daphne, Alabama passed away January 2, 2022. Craig was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1948 to Frank and Mitzi Shay. Craig received a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and worked for many years in mental health in both Mississippi and Virginia. When Craig wasn’t working, he loved being in the outdoors and traveling. He could be found whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking; along with fishing, hiking, and camping. He spent two weeks paddling down the Grand Canyon River in a canoe. Craig was also an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Craig always had a way of bringing family and friends together with his sense of humor, which will be missed by all. Recently, Craig could be found with his beloved dog, Sierra, by his side telling many stories of his past adventures. Sierra crossed the rainbow bridge two weeks before Craig. Craig is survived by his wife, Debbie Boelte; children, Patrick Shay (Diana), Jason Shay (Rachael Hood), John Boelte (Patricia), Michael Boelte (Kathy); grandchildren, Hannah Shay, Ethan Shay, Jea Boelte, Judah Boelte, Jorie Boelte, Simon Boelte, Chris Boelte; along with many friends. Because of Craig’s strong advocacy for mental health, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NAMI, any other mental health charity, or other charity of choice.
